A non-profit company working alongside the City of Cape Town since 2004 to create a safer, cleaner, and more thriving industrial district.

Our Story

Two Decades of
Collective Progress

Airport Industria CID was established in 2004 under the City of Cape Town's Special Rating Area (SRA) by-law. Property owners within the defined boundary collectively agreed to pay an additional levy on top of their municipal rates, funds ring-fenced exclusively for supplementary services in the district.

What began as a focused safety and cleansing initiative has grown into a comprehensive urban management programme serving over a thousand businesses and properties. Through transparent governance, independently audited finances,
and close collaboration with the City, SAPS, and community partners, the CID has transformed Airport Industria into one of Cape Town's most actively managed
industrial zones.

Today, the CID coordinates four core service pillars, safety and security, cleansing and maintenance, social responsibility, and capital projects, all overseen by an elected board of property owners and municipal representatives.

First CCTV network installed across primary arterials in the district

Our Objectives

What We Set Out to Achieve

The CID's mandate is defined in its governing constitution and renewed at each Annual General Meeting by registered property owners.

Reduce Crime & Fear

Deploy patrol resources, CCTV infrastructure, and rapid-response protocols that measurably reduce criminal incidents and the fear of crime within the SRA.

Maintain Cleanliness

Keep all public spaces, roads, and verges within the SRA
clean, graffiti-free, and well-maintained on a daily and responsive basis.

Improve Property Values

Through consistent service delivery and infrastructure investment, protect and grow the value of commercial and industrial property in the district.

Upgrade Infrastructure

Fund and implement capital improvement projects that supplement City services and enhance the district's
physical environment.

Uplift the Community

Invest in social responsibility programmes that create opportunity for local residents and address homelessness and unemployment constructively.

Govern Transparently

Maintain rigorous financial controls, independent auditing, and open reporting so that every levy rand spent can be accounted for by property owners.

Social Responsibility

No taxpayer money funds CID operations. Every rand spent on patrol officers, cleaning crews, and infrastructure upgrades
comes directly from the additional levy paid by property owners within the SRA.

Levies are calculated as a percentage of municipal valuation and collected by the City of Cape Town alongside standard rates. The City then transfers these funds to the CID, which distributes them according to the annual budget approved by members at the AGM.

Governance

Board & Structure

The CID is governed by a board of directors elected by registered members at the Annual General Meeting. The City of Cape Town holds an observer
seat on the board. Day-to-day operations are managed by CID Manager Mark Norman, appointed by the Board.

The Board meets every second month. Portfolios meet with the CID Manager as needed; decisions are taken by the full Board.
