Cleansing Maintenance
The AICID provides cleaning and maintenance services over and above those provided by the City, with streets and public spaces monitored daily.
The CID has 8 dedicated general workers operating in the Airport Industria area 5 days a week. They attend to the picking up of litter, sweeping the streets, cleaning storm water canals, cutting the lawn on verges and removing weeds. They also remove illegal posters from non-municipal infrastructure within the public domain and clean the City’s green litter bins on a daily basis.
Dumping of rubble and garden waste is still a major challenge, but this is addressed on a daily basis by the CID cleaning team. The CID continues to promote the quarterly greening campaign by urging businesses to beautify their verges and take part in the quarterly garden competition. A floating trophy is given to the winner to display in their reception area.
Urban Maintenance
Defects are reported to the City of Cape Town by means of a C3 notification, and photos of all safety hazards and defects are emailed to the CCT.
The CID further identifies shortcomings and submits a list of essential needs to the CCT to incorporate into its operating and/or capital budgets. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Street lighting
- Storm Water Canal cleaning
- Fire Hydrants maintenance and repairs
- Road Maintenance
- Sidewalk and Kerb maintenance
- Clearing and maintenance of overgrown vacant plots
- Road traffic markings
- Road traffic signage
- Environmental Health issues
Safety Hazards and Maintenance
The CID Manager compiles defects into lists on a weekly basis for the respective council departments who then render assistance, which are listed below:
- Defective and insufficient street lighting
- Lamp poles damaged
- Drain covers missing or damaged
- Blocked drains (storm water)
- Damaged fences
- Pot holes and road reserve maintenance and damage
- Kerb damages
- Traffic signs and traffic road markings
- Visibility of street names
- Illegal sign boards, posters and pamphlets
- Maintenance of vacant erven
- Fire Hydrants leaking, damaged covers and stop cocks
- Water canals are monitored for cleaning and cutting
- Eskom and Telkom unit damages
- Tree maintenance
- Other general council related work
The CID Manager has established a good working relationship with the various Council departments and officials.
Daily Street Sweeping
Dedicated cleaning teams sweep and litter-pick all public roads, pavements, and verges within the SRA on a daily schedule.
Graffiti Removal
All graffiti reported within the district is removed inside
the 48 hour period, maintaining a professional and
vandal-free environment.
Illegal Dumping Clearance
Illegal dumping sites are cleared promptly and offenders are referred to the City of Cape Town for prosecution.
Infrastructure Upkeep
Minor repair and maintenance tasks, including pothole reporting, sign replacement, and stormwater clearing, are coordinated
with the City.
Green Space Maintenance
Public verges, planted areas, and open green spaces are trimmed, watered, and maintained to a consistent standard.
Quality Inspections
Supervisory inspections are conducted weekly to audit cleanliness standards and ensure contractor performance
meets requirements.
